The goal of effective social studies instruction is to foster responsible citizens in an ever-changing interdependent world. We achieve this desired outcome through the social science disciplines and also through integration with other core curricular areas, especially reading and language arts.
We're excited that many of the major social studies groups in Kansas are co-sponsoring this year's conference - the list of the co-sponsors is on the right. The conference is planned for September 30 and October 1 at the Kansas State Historical Society complex in Topeka. Be sure to register by September 1 to receive the early-bird registration fee of $65.
For a quick overview of the two-day conference, download the Conference Flyer here. (Print and pass out to others who may be interested!)
Conference sessions will address topics from the following subject areas: economics, geography, history, and civics/government. Many sessions deal with the implementation of primary sources as a method for meeting the Common Core Literacy standards as well as other important 21st century skills our students need to be effective and engaged citizens.
